I’m blessed with some of the best clients a freelancer can ever ask for, people who are interested in my vision and lore and wish to see it come to life. I was asked to create a bowl featuring my OC, The Blacksmith and the Blob. People who frequent my streams or familiar with my older work might remember a marionette that was in The Blob’s original story. The marionette is an important part of the Blacksmith’s past, and this bowl depicts part of its creation.

The challenge in this project was slightly different than the previous ones, and I’d say that it was probably the most frustrating/rewarding bowl I’ve worked on. In my past bowls, while a lot changed in final compositions compared to the sketch, I more or less had an idea of what went where. This one was a complete blank for me. In the sketch, the marionette had a wig and facing side ways. That just didn’t work at all when I actually painted it. It was too… uncanny. I also miscalculated and the whole composition flushed to the right, and the table looked way too empty and not “grounded”.
The idea of the screen door and painting set all came to be much later into the process of the bowl.

Despite the frustration, this bowl really means a ton to me. It features a story I’ve been brewing for a long time, and really challenged my capacity to think on the fly and accept mistakes.
