This was a simple idea that turned into something more!
My dear friend Kester, who has always been incredibly supportive of my art, asked to see all of my washi tape collection (I have a LOT). He wanted to see if I could do a sketch inspired by the washi tape pattern he had selected.
One pick turned into 4, then turned into 8, then turned into 12!
I enjoyed making these so much, they were quick paintings so I never felt stressed over perfecting them. It was fun to work with different palettes and patterns. Many of these patterns were, funnily enough, considered "not useful" to me because I never could see how I'd fit them in my regular work. I'm really grateful for my friend who always gives me project and ideas that would push my limit.
======================================
The most challenging one in this set was the upper right: The rigid boxes and complex patterns required a lot of tinkering to break them up and morph into the cloths.
The most fun one in this set was the lower left: This is one of those tapes I never would've used because of little dolls being slightly awkward. But as soon as it was picked I imagined these colorful jacket that would feature one of a kind art. (side note, this is my friend's personal favorite. He calls her kpop princess).
Lower right was on the difficult side as well, mostly because of tape consisting of only one color that's hard to see unless under the light.
My personal favorite was the upper left: It was the one that started all of it. Also I love the dresses in the 50s... may have bought some after working on that piece.
