Washi tape fashion series - Set2

This was a simple idea that turned into something more!
My dear friend Kester, who has always been incredibly supportive of my art, asked to see all of my washi tape collection (I have a LOT). He wanted to see if I could do a sketch inspired by the washi tape pattern he had selected.
One pick turned into 4, then turned into 8, then turned into 12!

I enjoyed making these so much, they were quick paintings so I never felt stressed over perfecting them. It was fun to work with different palettes and patterns. Many of these patterns were, funnily enough, considered "not useful" to me because I never could see how I'd fit them in my regular work. I'm really grateful for my friend who always gives me project and ideas that would push my limit.

======================================

The most challenging one in this set was the lower right: It's a beautiful pattern, but the high contrast made it difficult to show the layering of the clothing. Had to really get creative to break up the pattern to give the illusion of folds.
The most fun one in this set was the upper left: It was a very simplistic and rigid pattern but super fun to rotate and layer to create the visual hierarchy.

Upper right was very fun too! It's a very transparent type without much contrast, so I cut them into little pieces and layered like how I would with watercolor, then used acrylic paint to add contrast.

My personal favorite was the lower left: it's a fun pattern and I LOVE casual kimono and wide pants. Actually wish I had what she's wearing.
