Washi tape fashion series - Set3

This was a simple idea that turned into something more!
My dear friend Kester, who has always been incredibly supportive of my art, asked to see all of my washi tape collection (I have a LOT). He wanted to see if I could do a sketch inspired by the washi tape pattern he had selected.
One pick turned into 4, then turned into 8, then turned into 12!

I enjoyed making these so much, they were quick paintings so I never felt stressed over perfecting them. It was fun to work with different palettes and patterns. Many of these patterns were, funnily enough, considered "not useful" to me because I never could see how I'd fit them in my regular work. I'm really grateful for my friend who always gives me project and ideas that would push my limit.

======================================

The most challenging one in this set was the upper left: it's a beautiful pattern but lacks contrast and definition. I struggled to blend it into her flowy dress.
The most fun one in this set was the upper right: I really enjoyed painting her pose and expression. I've always loved the look of sukajan, and immediately thought of it when the flowery pattern was selected.

Lower right was both fun and challenging, but more so in her pose. I almost gave up on the pose and angle several times. Glad I stuck with it because I love that pattern!

My personal favorite was the lower left: I JUST LOVE HER, my personal favorite in all 12. I rarely use warm shadows. I thought it might compliment her skin color and the simple black on transparent tape. (side note, the mandarin words are poems that are almost impossible to translate into English. I tried and it just sounded ridiculous LMAO)
